How is the sale price calculated?

The sale price is the original price multiplied by (1 minus the discount as a decimal). The amount saved is the difference between the original price and the sale price:

sale price=price×(1discount %100)

Example: $80 item, 25% off

80 × (1 − 0.25) = 80 × 0.75 gives a sale price of $60.00, saving $20.00.

Example: stacking a 20% sale with a 10% coupon

Stacked discounts multiply rather than add. A $100 item at 20% off first drops to $80, then the extra 10% coupon takes 10% off that $80 (not off the original $100), landing at $72.00 — an effective discount of 28.0%, not 30%.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include sales tax?
No — the discount applies to the price you enter. If your price is pre-tax, tax is typically calculated on the discounted sale price, not the original price. Check your local rules if unsure.
Do two discounts add together?
No. Stacked discounts are applied one after another, not added. A 20% discount followed by a 10% coupon results in a 28% effective discount, not 30%, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price. Use the "Add a second discount" option above to see this calculated.
How do I calculate the discount percentage from a sale price?
Subtract the sale price from the original price, divide by the original price, and multiply by 100. For example, an $80 item on sale for $60 is (80 − 60) / 80 × 100 = 25% off.
